Poor standards of maintenance at the Fun Royal Tropicale Hotel were reported, along with evidence of bird droppings in the restaurant. The hotel also proved positive for Legionella in the hot water system which causes severe pneumonia and can prove fatal.
Salmonella food poisoning in the Dominican Republic is one of the most common forms of illness on the island and it affects up to one in five holidaymakers who visit hotels in the region. Tour operators must never expose holidaymakers to any food-related illness or to any illness caused by poor standards of food handling or preparation and poor general hygiene.
